Game Of Thrones Star Maisie Williams Wanted For Pacific Rim 2

At this point, we really don't know if we'll ever see Pacific Rim 2 (which is apparently going to be titled Pacific Rim: Maelstrom), but that doesn't mean Guillermo del Toro isn't still putting together his ideal cast for the film.

At this point, we really don’t know if we’ll ever see Pacific Rim 2 (which is apparently going to be titled Pacific Rim: Maelstrom), but that doesn’t mean Guillermo del Toro isn’t still putting together his ideal cast for the film.

We’ve already heard that Charlie Hunnam and Rinko Kikuchi will be returning to reprise their roles, and now we’ve learnt that del Toro also wants to bring Game of Thrones star Maisie Williams on board. The news comes directly from the horse’s mouth, as the director recently Tweeted the following:

Of course, with Universal recently removing Pacific Rim 2 from its release schedule, we’re not quite sure when and if it will ever come to fruition. They insist that they’re still committed to making it, but at this point, it doesn’t look like the film is going to head into production any time soon.

That doesn’t mean we can’t get excited by this news, though. Williams is a terrific young talent, and seeing her join a huge, blockbuster project such as this one would be very exciting indeed. She’s definitely due for some more exposure as well, and having her hop into a Jaeger alongside Hunnam and Kikuchi would certainly do just that.

Again though, Pacific Rim 2 is a long ways away from happening. The first film, while received well with critics, didn’t make as much money as the studio had hoped. $410 million worldwide isn’t anything to scoff at, but the $100 million domestic take was definitely cause for concern.

Regardless, it looks like there’s still hope that one day Guillermo del Toro will be able to bring Pacific Rim 2 to the big screen, and when he does, we sure hope that Maisie Williams is along for the ride.
