Lot of news surrounding the upcoming adaptation of the 50’s TV series The Lone Ranger. Recently producer Jerry Bruckheimer and star Johnny Depp (who will play Tonto) managed to secure Pirates of the Caribbean collaborator Gore Verbinski in the director’s chair. Depp has now stated who he would like to see take the role of the Lone Ranger, two of Hollywood’s biggest stars: George Clooney or Brad Pitt.

Depp told Collider:

There’s so many interesting possibilities out there. Brad [Pitt] would be great. [George] Clooney would be great. Don’t know who it’s going to be just yet.

Clooney’s name has been kicking around in relation to The Lone Ranger for a while (the project has been in development for 3 years), but this is the first time I have heard of Brad Pitt being mentioned with the role. Depp may have become acquainted with Pitt on the set of The Tourist, where he was working with his wife Angelina Jolie. So who knows, I am not at all familiar with the TV series, but I really like George Clooney in pretty much everything. What do you guys think?
