We finally have some news on the long-gestating adaptation of Eidos Interactive’s Kane & Lynch video game series. Though the project was first announced several years ago, numerous delays have held it back from entering production.

If I recall correctly, Bruce Willis and Jamie Foxx were originally attached, with F. Gary Gray set to direct. Now it seems as if things have completely changed. Gray is still in the director’s seat, but Foxx and Willis are out. Instead, Gerard Butler is being eyed for Kane and Vin Diesel is being looked at for Lynch.

Skip Woods (A Good Day To Die Hard) and Kyle Ward (Machete Kills) are behind the script for this one, which will follow the titular criminals, one a death row inmate and one a schizophrenic killer. Together, they team up to find a “stolen fortune” as well as save Kane’s wife and daughter.

Back when it was released in 2007, Kane & Lynch: Dead Men received mediocre to positive reviews from critics and earned itself a sequel in the form of Kane & Lynch 2: Dog Days. I remember playing both games and really enjoying them, especially the unique multiplayer mode (Fragile Alliance) that they featured. So I’m definitely happy to hear that the film is finally moving forward. Plus, with big name stars like Butler and Diesel attached, maybe this project could ignite enough interest in the series for Eidos to put another game into production.

I’ll keep my fingers crossed.

Tell us, are you happy to see the Kane & Lynch movie picking up steam?
