Slimer’s got a brand new friend in the latest TV spot for Ghostbusters, Paul Feig’s imminent reboot and franchise revival that arms Melissa McCarthy, Kristen Wiig, Kate McKinnon and Leslie Jones with those famous Proton Packs and ships them out onto the streets of NYC to ward off any and all supernatural evil.
A stalwart of the series from the off, fans have known about Slimer’s appearance in Ghostbusters since the first trailer stormed online – attracting an inexplicable amount of hate in the process – but today offers a peek at the ghoul’s female friend.
Now that we’re so close to release, and considering the sheer amount of footage that has already found its way online, Sony’s aggressive marketing campaign is at risk of overexposing its high-profile reboot, and this TV spot is another example of a surprise that would have been better served had it remained a secret until the lights dimmed on July 15.
Alas, when you factor in the asinine wave of total contempt that has been directed at Paul Feig’s overhaul, showcasing too much, too soon is likely the least of Sony’s worries.
Melissa McCarthy, Kristen Wiig, Kate McKinnon, and Leslie Jones will answer the call as Paul Feig’s fresh-faced ‘Busters when Sony’s long-awaited Ghostbusters reboot looms over theaters on July 15.
Erin Gilbert (Wiig) and Abby Yates (McCarthy) are a pair of unheralded authors who write a book positing that ghosts are real. A few years later Gilbert lands a prestigious teaching position at Columbia University, but her book resurfaces and she is laughed out of academia. Gilbert reunites with Yates and others when ghosts invade Manhattan and she and her team have to save the world.
