Gil Kenan To Helm Five Nights At Freddy’s Adaptation

Survival horror game Five Nights at Freddy’s is coming to the big screen courtesy of Warner Bros., and now, the studio has found their director in Gil Kenan. If the name sounds familiar, it’s because Kenan recently gave us the Poltergeist remake, which opened this summer to mediocre reviews and failed to leave much of a mark. That being said, the helmer isn’t necessarily a bad choice for the gig, and could bring something interesting to it.

For those unfamiliar with the game, it takes place in a restaurant called Freddy Fazbear’s Pizza. You step into the shoes of a security guard who must “survive his or her shift by keeping an eye on the security cameras and using them to track the animatronic animals that come to life and roam the restaurant at night.”

The series has earned much acclaim over the span of its four outings and brings with it a large and dedicated fanbase, who are no doubt hoping that their beloved franchise is done justice. It shouldn’t be too hard to put forth a good adaptation, either, as from what I’ve played of the games, it seems like there’s some solid potential for a genuinely unsettling movie. Hopefully Kenan can deliver something a bit more impressive than what we saw in the Poltergeist remake.

The script for Five Nights at Freddy’s is still being written, so it may be some time yet before we hear of anything more concrete on this one. As always though, we’ll keep you posted when we hear more.
