Goon 2 Will Take To The Ice In June, Says Seann William Scott

Few would have expected Goon, a film about a flailing hockey player attempting to make an impact as an Enforcer in the minor leagues, to carve out an audience when it released in 2011. But carve out an audience it did, and now star Seann William Scott is dusting off his kit to take to the ice once more, as it's been confirmed that Goon 2 will begin filming in mid-June.

Few would have expected Goon, a film about a flailing hockey player attempting to make an impact as an Enforcer in the minor leagues, to carve out an audience when it released in 2011. But carve out an audience it did, and now star Seann William Scott is dusting off his kit to take to the ice once more, as it’s been confirmed that Goon 2 will begin filming in mid-June.

Speaking during a Reddit AMA, the American Pie actor offered up a brief update about the status of the sequel, the intensity of the training, and why the hockey continuation could prove to be a hit amongst fans if the script by Jay Barauchel is given the proper treatment. Here’s what William Scott had to say on the matter at hand:

“Heh! Well, I did a bit of fight training for GOON. For GOON 2, I’ve been fight-training for the past month, and next month in May I start working with an MMA fighter, and then some skating (obviously, a lot of skating). We start shooting GOON 2 in mid-June, and if everybody does their jobs and we execute the amazing script that Jay [Baruchel] and his co-writer wrote, the fucking movie would be wicked.”

Word is that Michael Dowse is eyeing the chance to return at the helm, though neither William Scott or the studio has openly confirmed the director’s return. We’re holding out hope that he does, though, as Goon mixed slapstick comedy and intense hockey action, all the while underpinning the drama with a surprising amount of heart.

Revisiting Doug Glatt’s budding career didn’t spring to mind when the credits rolled four years ago, but if William Scott is right about Barauchel’s script, then Goon 2 could serve up a sequel worth its salt.
