Seen below, it ushers two major chess pieces into the spotlight: Jeff Goldblum’s Grandmaster and Tessa Thompson’s Valkyrie. Much like the Collector before him, Goldblum’s all-powerful sage is considered one of the Elders of the Marvel Cinematic Universe, and enjoys nothing more than pitting one hero against another via the Contest of Champions. Valkyrie, meanwhile, will strike up a “business relationship” with the eccentric Grandmaster come November, before going on to become an unlikely ally to Thor once he crash lands on Sakaar.

In addition to those two, we also get a look at Topaz, who will be played by Hunt for The Wilderpeople actress Rachel House. We don’t know the context of the scene that’s pictured here, but it’s a cool shot nonetheless and hopefully signals that there’s more to come in the near future.

After two thrilling trailers, the most recent of which dropped last month at San Diego Comic-Con, it seems like everyone’s fully on board now with the upcoming blockbuster, and given its wacky tone, boatload of humor and what looks to be a roller coaster ride of an adventure, we have every reason to believe that Ragnarok will be the film that brings redemption to the hero and washes the poor taste left by Thor and Thor: The Dark World from our mouths. Or at least, we sure hope that’s the case.

One way or another, we’ll find out how Marvel’s threequel fares quite soon. For on November 3rd, Thor: Ragnarok will open and find Asgard thrust into peril, largely thanks to Loki’s callous ruling on Odin’s throne coupled with the sudden arrival of Cate Blanchett’s Goddess of Death, Hela. Even for such an apocalyptic set-up, writer-director Waititi has teased the film’s comedic elements, which will no doubt burst to life when Thor and Hulk share the screen – you know, when they’re not at loggerheads in the dusty pits of Sakaar, of course.
