Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 introduces a lot of characters to the Marvel Cinematic Universe, with Pom Klementieff’s Mantis being one of the biggest new additions. However, something which has been bugging a lot of fans from the start is the fact she doesn’t have her green skin from the comic books.

It’s only in recent years that Mantis has been portrayed in that way, as she originally had pale skin upon her introduction. That’s something not everyone knows, hence why Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 director James Gunn has had to take to social media on numerous occasions to defend his decision. Now, however, some new concept art for the sequel has revealed that Mantis having green skin was considered – at least for a brief spell. It’s something which gives the character a vastly more alien appearance, but also one that makes her look a lot like Zoe Saldana’s Nebula, another green skinned member of the Guardians.

Regardless of Mantis’ appearance in the film, she’s definitely a highlight and steals the show on numerous occasions with her line delivery and dynamic with Dave Bautista’s Drax. She’s set to appear in Avengers: Infinity War as well, though the extent of her role there hasn’t been revealed just yet.

Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 is now in theaters, so expect those all-important box office numbers to arrive shortly. Until then, be sure to leave a comment letting us know your thoughts on James Gunn’s sequel.
