Taking a relative unknown property like Guardians of the Galaxy (which is, admittedly, a bit out there), and giving it to a director who had never before handled a big blockbuster, was a risky move indeed. So, imagine how surprised myself, along with almost every other film critic was, when Guardians of the Galaxy turned out to be one of 2014's finest efforts. A stunning achievement in every sense of the word, the film made a star out of leading man Chris Pratt, gave us some of the most loveable characters of the year, showed off the creative genius of director James Gunn and had us begging for more at the end.

Guardians Of The Galaxy Vol. 2’s Toy Line May Have Spoiled A Surprise Character’s Debut

By now, you’re no doubt aware that the film will see some new additions, as is expected of sequels, in the form of Mantis and Ego. What none of us were prepared for, however, was the possibility of Darkhawk being included. Needless to say, such an appearance would be especially baffling when you take into account that he’s normally not thought of as being associated with the featured characters, although he does have some history with the Nova Corps.

As for how we know this, well, the time honored tradition of toy lines spoiling things lives on. Not long ago, the DC Multiverse line gave us our first full look at Wonder Woman villain Ares, and who could ever forget a LEGO set completely letting the cat out of the bag when it came to the scene from The Amazing Spider-Man in which the Lizard turned a SWAT team into beasts who mirrored his own condition?

This time around, the bean spilling was done by Amazon’s storefront for the upcoming Marvel movie. It’s here that you can find Darkhawk’s name next to familiar favorites like Rocket and Groot. But just because he’s listed doesn’t necessarily mean his silver screen debut is set in stone. Case in point, Titanium Man was prominently featured in the toy line for a past Iron Man movie, just as Deathstroke was for The Dark Knight and neither of those villains showed up in said flicks.

I guess we’ll just have to wait and see when Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 arrives in theaters on May 5.
