‘Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3’ fans are agog over first look at unrecognizable DC star in new trailer

Some fans had no idea she was even in the movie, let alone the trailer.

MCU fans might not have gotten a teaser for The Marvels at this weekend’s Super Bowl, but they didn’t come away empty-handed, as the studio treated them to a brand-new Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 trailer instead. There’s a whole lot to unpack in the fresh look at this spring’s franchise-ending threequel, with fans already going through the trailer with a fine-tooth comb to catch everything. Even the most eagle-eyed out there can be forgiven for overlooking our first glimpse at a DC character’s MCU debut.

As pointed out by Discussing Film, among others, former James Gunn collaborator Daniela Melchior actually turns up in the trailer. It’s easy to miss her, as The Suicide Squad actress looks totally unrecognizable beneath a wig and transformative make-up, but she’s there.

While superhero audiences might be familiar with Melchior as Ratcatcher II in Gunn’s 2021 Task Force X flick, here she appears to be playing some kind of officiant escorting the Guardians (who are wearing what look like orange prison jumpsuits). Her unknown character sports a brunette bob, a white uniform, and extraterrestrial red skin.

Naturally, even Melchior’s most devoted fans missed her appearance in the trailer, and are now having their minds blown upon learning this is her.

For others, it’s news that she’s even in this movie at all.

Guardians 3 might’ve just found itself some new ticket-holders.

With Gunn already telling us the name of another new character introduced in the trailer (who’s fast becoming the fandom’s latest breakout favorite), maybe he’ll shed some further led on how Melchior fits into proceedings, if we’re lucky. If not, Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 will reveal all its secrets once it arrives this May 5. That month will be a big one for the Portuguese star, as she’s also set to appear in May 19’s Fast X.
