We’ve known for a while now that Margot Robbie is set to star in a Suicide Squad spinoff film revolving around Harley Quinn. However, with David Ayer’s entry into the DCEU having not gone over too well with fans or critics, chatter around the spinoff died down, leading many to wonder if it would still go ahead as planned.

Well, fear not DC fans, as TheWrap is reporting today that the show will indeed go on as Warner Bros. and DC Films have hired Christina Hodson to pen the script. Furthermore, they confirm earlier reports that it won’t be entirely focused on Quinn, instead featuring multiple female heroes and villains from the DC universe.

That’s all we’ve got for plot details at the moment, but this is certainly exciting news. Hodson is quickly becoming one of Hollywood’s hottest writers, having made the Black List three times now. Not to mention she’s also behind the Bumblebee spinoff for Paramount’s Transformers franchise and early reports say that the studio is very excited about her script.

Of course, with Justice League, Wonder Woman and to a lesser extent, The Flash and Aquaman, taking up the lion’s share of Warner Bros. and DC’s attention right now, it’s safe to say that this Harley Quinn spinoff is still a ways away. However, with a talented female scribe now on board, there’s certainly reason to get excited for it, and now that Hodson is involved, we can hopefully expect to hear more updates on the project in the very near future.
