Harry Potter Star Tom Felton Would Love To Play Draco Malfoy Again

It's been almost 6 years now since the Harry Potter films concluded, with the final entry hitting theaters in July of 2011. Despite rumors and speculation, the original, core cast have still not returned to reprise their roles in any type of spinoff, prequel, sequel or anything of the sort. That doesn't mean it won't happen though, and while we're not sure if everyone would be on board to return to the iconic world of witchcraft and wizardry, Tom Felton certainly would.

It’s been almost 6 years now since the Harry Potter films concluded, with the final entry hitting theaters in July of 2011. Despite rumors and speculation, the original, core cast have still not returned to reprise their roles in any type of spinoff, prequel, sequel or anything of the sort. That doesn’t mean it won’t happen though, and while we’re not sure if everyone would be on board to revisit the iconic world of witchcraft and wizardry, Tom Felton certainly would.

The actor played Draco Malfoy in the franchise, a nemesis for Harry and a character who also became something of a fan-favorite thanks to Felton’s excellent portrayal of him. While appearing at the A Celebration of Harry Potter event in Universal this weekend, he was asked whether or not he’d want to play another character in the franchise if he had the chance to go back and do it all over again.

Unsurprisingly, Felton noted that he wouldn’t have it any other way and hinted that he’d be up for reprising the role down the road:

I’m too keen on Malfoy. I might go near it again when they do the 4D scratch-and-sniff version in 20 years when I get to be an old man. But yeah, no. I’m far too keen on Draco.

To date, there’s been no plans to bring back the original characters for any kind of film, but as we mentioned above, there have been rumors. Not too long ago, the internet went wild when reports surfaced that told us Warner Bros. was going to adapt the stage play, Harry Potter and the Cursed Child, in 2026 with most of the cast set to return. Unfortunately, J.K. Rowling quickly put paid to that idea, saying it wouldn’t happen. However, is she to be believed?

In our eyes, an adaptation of the Cursed Child is a more a question of when and not if. I mean, to get the original cast back in their roles for a feature film version of the play would quite possibly be one of the biggest movie events of all-time. Not to mention that it would bring the studio, and all involved, a boatload of money. And that’s putting it lightly.

Frankly, it seems like too lucrative of an opportunity to pass up and despite Rowling shutting down the rumor, we imagine that there’s some truth to it. Don’t take that to mean that a Cursed Child film is a sure thing, but you can bet that there’s been talk about an adaptation and it’s most definitely being looked into.

Regardless, even if something did materialize, it’d be a very long time before we heard about it. For now, at least we can take comfort in the fact that Tom Felton would be on board to reprise his role and hopefully, the other Harry Potter stars feel the same.
