We’ve said it before and we’ll say it again: beyond Avengers: Infinity War, the future of the Marvel Cinematic Universe is being kept firmly under lock and key. That includes the title to Avengers 4, while we understand the studio has already staked out three release dates in 2020.
The reason behind that secrecy is simple, of course; Kevin Feige and the Powers That Be want to retain a sense of mystery when it comes to Infinity War, and the Marvel Boss has hinted in the past that the titles of those three 2020 tentpoles include spoilers for everything that has come before – Infinity War in particular. But if a recent quote from the Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 premiere is anything to go by, we may already have a name for Avengers 4. BBC Film journalist Lizo Mzimba spoke briefly with Zoe Saldana (Gamora) at the red carpet event for Guardians 2, and it was here that the actress hinted that Joe and Anthony Russo’s 2019 tentpole will be titled Avengers: Infinity Gauntlet.
Now, before we get too far ahead of ourselves, Marvel is yet to announce anything official at the time of writing, so it’s best to treat Saldana’s throwaway comment as just that. Perhaps Gauntlet is simply a code word used during the production of Avengers 4? It’s far too soon to tell, but have a gander at the Tweet below and see what you think.

If nothing else, it’s certainly more eye-catching than Infinity War – Part 2, and an evocative title like Infinity Gauntlet all but confirms that Thanos will indeed collect all six of those precious Infinity Stones during his quest for absolute power. So far, the entire MCU has been leading up to the moment in which Earth’s Mightiest Heroes – flanked by the Guardians – take on the Mad Titan just as he comes into possession of all six gems, so can the title Infinity Gauntlet really be considered a spoiler?
Avengers: Infinity War, meanwhile, opens on May 4th of next year.
