Hellboy Actress Selma Blair Urges Disney To Rehire James Gunn

Taking to Twitter, former Hellboy actress Selma Blair has vouched for James Gunn, and asked that he be reinstated at the helm of Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3.

Former Hellboy actress Selma Blair is the latest Hollywood star to publicly vouch for James Gunn in light of Disney’s shock decision to remove the filmmaker from Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 – and the entire cosmic branch of the MCU, it seems.

Per Twitter, Blair urged Disney to reconsider, stating that Gunn is “one of the good ones.” The actress has long been a supporter of James Gunn, after detailing to Vanity Fair the sexual harassment she faced when auditioning for filmmaker James Toback years prior.

Selma Blair was among the 200-odd women who came forward with accusations against Toback last October, during which time she singled out Gunn and Doctor Strange writer-director Scott Derrickson as two men who “reached out and said how important it was to be on this side of history.”

The former took to Facebook at the time to call Selma Blair a “hero,” and now, it’s Blair who’s expressing her solidarity with James Gunn.

The second tweet from Blair alludes to the ongoing Change.org petition calling on Disney to walk back their decision to sever ties with James Gunn. It’s amassed just over 190,000 signatures at the time of writing, though we can’t imagine the Powers That Be will take too much notice of an online petition now that Gunn’s contract has effectively been terminated. Still, we can’t be certain.

In case you’re not fully up to speed, James Gunn’s tenure in the MCU came to an abrupt halt on Friday evening when Fox News and other major outlets uncovered a string of disturbing comments from the director’s Twitter feed. Gunn has since apologized for the contentious material, though it’s all but certain the Guardians of the Galaxy will now have to continue on without their fearless leader behind the wheel.
