Since the events of Man of Steel, Henry Cavill’s Clark Kent has gone through some big changes. The latest issue of Empire actually reveals that in Batman V Superman: Dawn of Justice, Clark Kent is living with Lois Lane and working his way up the ranks of The Daily Planet, but as Superman, the world remains unsure whether he’s their saviour or tyrant.

However, while the public may have either embraced or turned on him, it definitely sounds like Superman has come a long way as a superhero.

“He’s more used to this gig, doing his best to save as many lives as he can. He is no longer frantic. He’s no longer a wet behind the ears kind of superhero,” says Cavill.

As for Superman’s view on Batman, the actor explains that Clark initially hopes to use his position as a journalist to expose the Caped Crusader’s brutal methods, and makes some potentially controversial comments about how he pictures a one on one battle between the two heroes playing out in Batman V Superman: Dawn of Justice.

“He doesn’t agree with his form of justice. For this farm boy, who tries to do things the right way, justice at any cost is not something he can come to terms with. It’s not about one on one. Of course Superman is going to win. But it’s deeper than that. It’s more that these two great powers exist and are actually trying to achieve the same thing, but in such different way…”

Cavill concluded by weighing in on the differences between playing Superman and Clark Kent, making it clear that he has no intention of going down the same bumbling buffoon route that Christopher Reeve once did.

“He is the human side of the character, but there is often this idea that Clark and Superman must be so different. He can only get away with wearing the glasses so much. If he’s drawing attention to himself by being clumsy, that’s not going to work.”

If one thing is instantly clear from these comments, it’s that the actor knows this character very, very well. While a Man of Steel sequel has yet to be announced, Cavill will be spending plenty of time with the hero in Batman V Superman: Dawn of Justice and the two-part Justice League, and we can’t wait to see how he continues to evolve in the role.
