The joke was that we didn’t find out what it was as his reply was bleeped out and a bar was placed over his mouth. One Marvel fan wasn’t taking no for an answer, though, and has now edited the video in order to remove the bleep and find out what he said.

Yes, as Volkov mentions here, Ruffalo told Fallon that Avengers 4 is titled The Last Avenger. This is one of the numerous potential titles that’ve been rolling around the internet and the thinking behind it is that it’d be a neat callback to Captain America: The First Avenger. Especially because Steve Rogers is expected to sacrifice himself in the movie, following Chris Evans’ heartfelt goodbye message to the character on social media.

However, before you start thinking that this means the case is closed, evidence suggests that Ruffalo wasn’t telling the truth. Someone in attendance on the show explained that the Hulk actor told the audience that what he said wasn’t true during the commercial break.

Funnily enough, on the day that Ruffalo’s Tonight Show skit aired, MCU Cosmic’s Jeremy Conrad claimed to have been told that the real title for Avengers 4 is Avengers: Annihilation. Conrad did warn, however, that his source could only say that this was the title several months ago, so things might’ve changed. Which means that, theoretically, The Last Avenger could be the actual title and Ruffalo might have been telling the truth all along.

Regardless, it’s looking like the first trailer for Avengers 4 could be here as soon as next month, so we should get a firm confirmation on that title pretty soon.
