Honest Trailers Squashes The Amazing Spider-Man 2

With the theatrical release of Spider-Man: Homecoming being just days away, the folks at Screen Junkies have decided to journey all the way back to 2014 to reminisce on the wallcrawler's last solo outing. Come to think of it, it seems so weird talking about The Amazing Spider-Man 2 in this context given that the character is being rebooted for the big screen yet again, but at least he's in the Marvel Cinematic Universe now, right? And we wonder why the average moviegoers gets headaches because of this stuff.

With the theatrical release of Spider-Man: Homecoming being just days away, the folks at Screen Junkies have decided to journey all the way back to 2014 to reminisce on the wallcrawler’s last solo outing. Come to think of it, it seems so weird talking about The Amazing Spider-Man 2 in this context given that the character is being rebooted for the big screen yet again, but at least he’s in the Marvel Cinematic Universe now, right? And we wonder why the average moviegoer gets headaches because of this stuff.

Truth be told, I didn’t hate Marc Webb’s second effort as much as everyone else did. Sure, it was incredibly bloated (as I’ll get to in a moment), but I was able to digest it far easier than any of the films directed by Sam Raimi, which I can take about as seriously as any of Joel Schumacher’s Batman flicks. If you really look at it, the DNA for a good movie was there and there were some truly great performances made by some of the lead actors, but it ultimately fell short of its 2012 predecessor.

Of course, much of the blame could be placed on the studio because, before Sony decided to play ball with Disney, they were trying to build their own odd cinematic universe (which they’re seemingly trying to do again). Consequently, Andrew Garfield’s second tour in the costume was marred by it being forced to serve as a backdoor pilot of sorts for Sinister Six, a half-baked attempt at replicating the Avengers but with supervillains (believe it or not, it was to be a redemption story). Hey, at least the prospect of sitting down to watch movies featuring the likes of Venom and Black Cat is better than one centered on Aunt May, right?

Now, you or I could probably rant about this all day, but it’s best you just kick back and check out the Honest Trailer for The Amazing Spider-Man 2 – and have a few laughs in the process. When you’re finished, be sure to let us know in the comments section if you dug the movie or if you thought it was a complete mess.
