Is Ice Cube In Line To Join Sony’s Animated Spider-Man Movie?

Spidey fans have a lot to look forward to over the next little while, that's for sure. With the webhead set to headline his own solo outing in the form of Spider-Man: Homecoming, and also what will presumably be a large role to play in Avengers: Infinity War, there definitely won't be a shortage of Peter Parker on the big screen. But it won't only be the live-action version of the hero keeping fans busy, as Sony is currently working on an animated Spider-Man flick as well.

Spidey fans have a lot to look forward to over the next little while, that’s for sure. With the webhead set to headline his own solo outing in the form of Spider-Man: Homecoming, and also what will presumably be a large role to play in Avengers: Infinity War, there definitely won’t be a shortage of Peter Parker on the big screen. But it won’t only be the live-action version of the hero keeping people busy, as Sony is currently working on an animated Spider-Man flick as well.

We don’t know too much about the project just yet, but it’s said to feature the Miles Morales version of the character. With Phil Lord and Chris Miller on producing duties, and the former having written the script, expectations are certainly high. Some may say Marvel runs the risk of too much Spidey, but we say there’s no such thing, right?

While casting for the animated flick hasn’t kicked off just yet, some rumors have begun to make the rounds and one of them comes from Jeff Sneider, co-host of Meet The Movie Press. According to him, Ice Cube is being eyed to play Morales’ father, Jefferson Davis. For those unfamiliar, the character’s a “former NYPD officer with a shady past involving his criminal brother, Aaron, which leads to a complicated relationship with his son.”

This is by no means official, of course, and Sneider has been wrong many, many times in the past, but it could make a bit of sense. For one, Ice Cube has worked with both Sony and Lord and Miller before, on the 21 Jump Street films, not to mention that he’s pretty popular in Hollywood right now and would certainly be a nice addition to the project, don’t you think? Time will tell, but we’ll be sure to let you know once we learn more.

Sony’s animated Spider-Man film is scheduled to open on December 21st, 2018.
