‘It’s Wonder Woman’: ‘The Flash’ star couldn’t help but fangirl during her first meeting with Gal Gadot

Who can deny they wouldn't do the same in her shoes?

Sasha Calle, who will make her first appearance as Supergirl in DC Studios’ upcoming The Flash film, has spoken about how meeting Gal Gadot, one of her inspirations and role models, filled her with a mixture of excitement and disbelief.

Comicbook.com interviewed Calle, who described her fangirling over the Wonder Woman actress upon meeting her for the first time.

“Well, look, I really want to talk about Gal [Gadot]. I watched Wonder Woman in 2017, and I cut a picture of her and put her on my vision board. She was doing stunts. And I just remember, like, God, I was just so inspired by her, and when I met her, I was just like, ‘I saw your movie, and because of you, because of the representation, right? Representation of a woman being a superhero on screen. Like, I knew that I had to do that.’ And I was like, ‘Here I am in front of you.’ Like it’s a wild expression, and Gal is like, so sweet, so loving, so caring, so supportive. I really like her, look up to her, and admire her, and she is just so sweet. I never fangirl, but I was literally like, ‘Um, you’re not going to not; it’s Wonder Woman. You’re not going to fan either?'”

The 27-year-old Calle was previously most recognized for her portrayal of Lola Rosales on the CBS soap opera The Young and the Restless, for which she received a nomination for a Daytime Emmy Award. Her performance as Superman’s cousin Kara Zor-El in The Flash also marks her first appearance in a major motion picture.

Director Andy Muschietti announced Calle’s hiring by posting a video of a Zoom call he made with the actress to tell her she’d landed the job after beating out 425 actresses who auditioned. Her casting makes her the first Latina actress to play Supergirl in DC history.

Besides the appearance of Gal Gadot as Wonder Woman, The Flash will also include the return of Michael Keaton and Ben Affleck’s Batmans (Batmen?) and a surprise stint by a certain would-be cinematic Superman. In the movie, Ezra Miller’s Barry Allen goes back in time to prevent his mother’s death but ends up in a world without metahumans. To save this world from the revived General Zod and get back to his universe, he recruits his younger self, an older Batman, and the Kryptonian castaway Supergirl.

The Flash in set to finally launch into theaters this June 16.
