Apparently Only J.J. Abrams Knows Star Wars: Episode IX’s Title

With Disney holding back on promoting Star Wars: Episode IX until Avengers: Endgame has been and gone, fans are growing curious as to what we can expect in the closer to the sequel trilogy. Right now, it seems like most would just settle for knowing the title. There’ve been numerous leaks and theories about what it could be called, but don’t believe that any of them are true, as it looks like only the movie’s director knows the actual moniker. While engaging with his fans on Instagram, Lord of the Rings star Dominic Monaghan – who’s traveling to a galaxy far, far away in Episode IX to play an undisclosed role – was inevitably asked what the title of the film is. “ONLY @jjabramsofficial knows,” the actor replied. “It’s good to have secrets on @starwars.”

This fits with what we’ve heard before, which is that even the Lucasfilm Story Group is in the dark about the title, as creative executive Pablo Hidalgo – usually the first guy to know about the latest Star Wars info – revealed that he wasn’t aware of what Episode IX was called.

Recently, we thought we had the title when it was widely rumored that the film would be called “Balance of the Force.” It wasn’t a bad name all things considered, as it evoked an important theme discussed in previous films and hinted at a battle to come between Rey and Kylo Ren, bringing balance to the force either way, but it’s highly unlikely that this is the real deal. Maybe Mark Hamill was on to something though when he noticed that Futurama predicted the movie’s title years ago.

In any case, all will be revealed soon, as Star Wars: Episode IX – insert real title here – hits theaters on December 20th.
