James Badge Dale To Headline Supernatural Flick Spectral

James Badge Dale has got to be one of Hollywood’s most under-appreciated talents. I wouldn’t call him an unknown, but he’s nowhere near as big a name as he should be. Despite taking substantial roles in three tentpoles last summer (World War Z, Iron Man 3 and The Lone Ranger), he’s still not on the A-list and has yet to really break out.

Thankfully, that may change in the near future, as the actor has just signed on for the lead role in Nic Mathieu’s Spectral, which is being described as a “supernatural Black Hawk Down.” The film will focus on a special-ops team tasked with protecting New York City from supernatural beings.

Ok, so it doesn’t sound like the most original premise and in fact, we saw something pretty similar with last year’s horrendous R.I.P.D.. Still, it would be foolish to judge a book by its cover, and with James Badge Dale in the lead role, the film could turn out to be an enjoyable ride. I’m just hoping that they go for something more gritty and hopefully R-rated, rather than a restrictive PG-13 rating.

Even if it turns out to be a dud, Spectral will no doubt help make the actor more recognizable to moviegoers. In my books, that is most definitely a good thing.

Tell us, are you a fan of James Badge Dale and if so, does Spectral sound like a good project for him? Sound off below!
