James Gunn debunks ‘The Flash’ DCU reset rumors

It's not EXACTLY what you think.

James Gunn and Peter Safran have finally shown their hand after being appointed as co-CEOs of DC Studios, after spending the last few months dismantling the old guard piece by piece.

With a slate of now-known TV shows and movies in the pipeline, it has gotten the fandom curious as to how exactly the transition will take place. Most fingers appear to be tentatively pointed at Andy Muschietti’s upcoming The Flash as the catalytic and proverbial big red button which will flush away all remnants of the SnyderVerse.

However, Gunn confirmed that this isn’t necessarily the case. While the DC Studios head confirmed that the above argument contains some merit, it isn’t going to be wiping the slate completely clean.

In the above Instagram post sharing his excitement for Creature Commandos, Gunn replied to a fan asking about how much of the DC Universe The Flash will reset. As initially spotted by The Direct, Gunn offered the following:

Flash resets many things, not all things. Some characters remain the same some do not.”

So there you have it, James Gunn’s DC Universe won’t be a completely clean slate following The Flash. Whatever it all ends up looking like and how it unfolds, we’ve still got a bit of a wait for the rest of the Gunn-less slate to play out, which won’t be until around 2025.

It just so happens that’s the year we’ll also see Matt Reeves’ The Batman sequel, which is labeled as an Elseworlds project. That’s certainly something we can get excited about with little caution – even an MCU star is getting swept up in the hype.
