James Gunn reveals a surprising connection between ‘Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3’ and ‘The Flash’

This guy seems to be gunning for an Abrams-like spot!

Yesterday’s Super Bowl trailers had a slice of something for everyone, no matter where their comic book allegiances may lie, with James Gunn having a finger in both Marvel and DC pies.

As it turns out, two of the films showcased in yesterday’s swathe of trailers have something in common, besides the freshly-minted head of DC Studios – it’s the cinematographer behind Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 and The Flash. There was also a triple-appearance (two trailers and a commercial) by Ben Affleck, but that’s a story for another time.

At least until Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 releases, Gunn became something of a “King of the Nerds” figurehead reminiscent of J.J Abrams in the early 2010s, who was almost simultaneously commandeering both Star Trek and Star Wars films.

In the world of cinematography, it would seem that for director of photography of both Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 and The Flash, director Henry Braham ensnares both job titles.

The Flash generated substantial (and understandable) hype after it showed us our first glimpse of Michael Keaton donning a bat cowl, among another returning Batmen, a returning Man of Steel villain, and Supergirl. While there might not be a Christian Bale-esque conspiracy circulating about Guardians, we can’t discount the big reveals we saw in the trailer – including one very devestating spoilerish detail we think may have slid past Kevin Feige

Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 releases May 5, 2023, then The Flash will land a month later, on June 16.
