While Jared Leto’s future as the Joker seems to be in question, it’s full steam ahead for his take on Spider-Man villain Morbius (The Living Vampire). The film is currently shooting, but the actor has taken some time out to promote the release of tickets for his band 30 Seconds to Mars’ new tour. He’s done this with an Instagram picture that.. uh… phew.. *tugs collar cartoonishly*.. is it getting hot in here or is it just me?

Based on this pic it seems that Morbius won’t quite be the disfigured animalistic monster (or at least, not all the time) we’re familiar with in the comics. Instead, it seems that it’s going to be regular old Leto, but then again, I guess no one ever went bankrupt betting on the box office power of sexy vampires.

That said, there are a few clues here as to what the upcoming pic will be about. For one, the actor sports on his wrist the classic Casio FW-91 digital watch, which was popular in the 1990s. This might just be a hint that the film will be a period piece, but given that that’s also my watch of choice, it could signify absolutely nothing.

What we do know is that the movie will follow the comic book origin fairly closely. Leto plays scientist Michael Morbius, whose attempts to cure himself of a rare blood disease transforms him into a kind of science-vampire. Adria Arjona is set to play his long-suffering fiancee, with Matt Smith stepping into the role of Loxias Crown, Morbius’ friend and eventual arch-nemesis.

While many greeted the notion of a Morbius spinoff with skepticism, the fact that Venom was a box office smash means that Sony’s nascent Spidey spinoff universe is at least off to a good start. Let’s just hope that Morbius continues the winning streak.
