After months of speculation, THR is now confirming that Sucker Punch and The Hunger Games: Catching Fire actress Jena Malone has joined Batman V Superman: Dawn of Justice in “a mystery role.”

Rumors of Malone’s involvement in the highly-anticipated superhero showdown began a few months ago, when the actress visited the set of the film. At the time, her visit was chalked up as nothing more than just that, a visit to her friend Zack Snyder. However, rumors like this don’t die easily, and were given new life this month when Malone was spotted with red dyed hair. That may seem like a minor detail, but for fans of Frank Miller’s The Dark Knight Returns (which Snyder is drawing heavy influences from for BVS), that pointed toward Malone playing the female Robin, Carrie Kelley.

I’ll be the first to admit that I found those early rumors a bit ridiculous, and felt that an actress’ hair color wasn’t enough to make me believe she had landed such a role. However, news broke today that Snyder’s version of Robin would in fact be female, when an anonymous extra phoned in a tip to Michigan’s WILX-10 and broke a confidentiality agreement that could lead to a whopping $5 million penalty from the studio.

So, is Malone playing Carrie Kelley, or some other female version of the famous Batman sidekick? Maybe. The studio refused to comment, of course, and it’s entirely possible that Malone is playing someone else entirely. Maybe she’s that female Jimmy Olsen we heard so much about before Man of Steel came out? Or just a red-haired barista who gives Lex Luthor his coffee? Only time will tell…

What do you think? Is Malone playing Robin? Let us know your thoughts in the comments section below.

Batman V Superman: Dawn of Justice hits theaters on March 25th, 2016.
