Jenna Ortega in talks to join ‘Beetlejuice 2’ alongside original cast

Solid casting or typecasting?

Following her resoundingly successful debut as the titular character in Netflix’s hit series Wednesday, Jenna Ortega is reportedly in talks to collaborate with Tim Burton once again in the long-awaited Beetlejuice 2, which will also feature the return of its original cast.

Ortega is in discussions to play the daughter of Winona Ryder’s character from the original film, Lydia Deetz, according to Variety. Naturally, the sequel will also see Michael Keaton reprise his titular role from the 1988 classic.

Given Ortega’s recent success in a show which dives into the world of the occult, perhaps the shoe fits – or perhaps it’s textbook typecasting. After all, the actor did say that Wednesday isn’t the proudest moment of her career.

Beetlejuice 2 has been a long time coming, with both Keaton and Burton confirming that there is a script on the drawing board as far back as 2013, with Brad Pitt’s production company Plan B picking up the movie in early 2022. Late last year it was also confirmed that Catherine O’Hara would also return to the sequel to once again play Delia Deetz.

Much like Pedro Pascal of late, it would appear that everywhere you look, there’s been chatter about Jenna Ortega and upcoming projects she may or may not be involved in. If you can’t get enough of the Wednesday star, here’s a friendly reminder that you can catch her Scream VI, in theaters March 10. We’ve seen it, and we thought it was fantastic.
