Jennifer Lawrence, the breakout actress from Winter’s Bone, is in talks to join Oliver Stone’s Savages, a wise choice for her next project. She already made a great choice by signing onto X-Men: First Class and if she takes a role here, she’ll be well on her way to a very successful career. The film is a drug cartel thriller and is based on Don Winslow‘s book that tells the story of “two pals from Laguna Beach who share the same girlfriend and a thriving business growing and distributing the best-quality pot on the planet. When they resist being muscled by a Mexican drug cartel, the girl is kidnapped and the ransom is every cent they’ve made for the last five years. They agree to pay but hatch an alternate plan to get her back, get revenge, and then get lost.”
While there aren’t really any confirmed cast, Stone has talked to Leonardo DiCaprio, Aaron Johnson, Tom Hardy, James Franco, Garrett Hedlund and Benicio Del Toro about potential roles. Whether any of them actually sign on remains to be seen but seeing as it’s Stone directing, you can be sure that he’ll manage to put together a respectable cast.
I wasn’t a huge fan of Winter’s Bone but I definitely think Lawrence shows promise as an actress. The project certainly seems interesting and it’d be a smart career choice for her. If Stone can even snag two or three of the people mentioned above, this could end up turning into quite the film. To see DiCaprio and Hardy on screen together again would be great, since they had solid chemistry in Inception.
We’ll be sure to keep you posted on anymore news regarding the film.
