John Cho Says He Doesn’t Know Anything About Star Trek 4

After talk of Star Trek 4 began picking up steam toward the end of April - accentuated by the addition of director S. J. Clarkson - earlier this month, the project came to a screeching halt when Chris Hemsworth and Chris Pine abandoned the Enterprise over a salary dispute.

While some may choose to keep a finger on the pulse of the industry, actor John Cho evidently isn’t one of them.

After talk of Star Trek 4 began picking up steam toward the end of April – accentuated by the addition of director S.J. Clarkson – the project came to a screeching halt the other week when Chris Hemsworth and Chris Pine abandoned the Enterprise over a salary dispute.

Unfortunately, since George and James Kirk went rogue, intel regarding Star Trek 4 has been extremely hard to come by, and although it may seem like the logical conclusion to draw, those closest to the source don’t always have the scoop – just ask John Cho.

During the press junket for his new film Searching – which I highly recommend you check out – Cho revealed that not only does he “know very little about” Star Trek 4, but he’d also “rather not know” the details.

“I know very little about this. I’ve heard we’re going to do one. But beyond that, I don’t have details. I’d rather not know; I don’t want to lie. The boring answer is to wait for the powers that be to make a decision.”

The actor was then asked how Paramount should go about ensuring that the fourth installment does indeed perform better than Beyond, seeing as it’s that which ultimately forced the studio to make the pay cut that resulted in Pine and Hemsworth walking away from the project in the first place.

“I actually wasn’t aware [Star Trek Beyond] underperformed. I thought it was a great movie. See how little I pay attention to these things? I don’t know what to say. … Maybe more webcam Sulu close-ups.”

Regardless of where Sulu may find himself in 2019, if it’s not aboard the Enterprise in Star Trek 4, Cho would definitely be game for a solo venture. When queried apropos of his stance on a character-focused film, like Solo: A Star Wars Story, Cho replied: “If Solo, why not Sulu?” Searching director Aneesh Chaganty then joked his next film would be a Sulu movie, to which Cho quipped: “Yeah. Sulu: The Star Trek Story.”
