‘John Wick: Chapter 4’ star holding out hope to be a last-minute addition to ‘Ballerina’

There's always room in the world of Wick!

The possibility of a fifth film notwithstanding, John Wick: Chapter 4 looks to be the end of the road for the mainline saga. There’s plenty of stories to yet be told, of course – especially since Akira still has a score to settle with Caine – but as far as getting more of those iconic headshots, the franchise as we know it has reached an end.

But all that means is that there’s room for new beginnings to blossom, starting with the upcoming prequel miniseries The Continental and the spin-off film Ballerina, which will star Ana de Armas as the vengeful eponymous assassin as she hunts down her family’s killers.

Set before the events of Chapter 4, we will get to see Keanu Reeves‘ iconic hitman one more time, as we will Charon, the Continental concierge who was also killed off in Chapter 4 (and whose real-life actor, Lance Reddick, tragically passed away earlier this year). Indeed, de Armas may be the star of the show, but plenty of hearts will be with these cameos.

And one more legacy John Wick player is hoping to get back into the fold with Ballerina. In an interview with ComicBook, Natalia Tena, who portrays John’s adoptive sister Katia, revealed that despite knowing nothing about how Ballerina‘s ins and outs could manifest, she’d be all in on the opportunity to make a return to the franchise, especially if she got some action sequences of her own.

“I haven’t gotten a call yet, I can tell you that. To be honest, you don’t know. When it comes to Ballerina, I don’t know how long it’s going to go on for or what the sequence of events is. When that happens, there’s always an opportunity to bring people back in. You know, fingers crossed this time I’d really get some action sequences or I’d really get to physically kill someone and do all the prosthetic stuff that goes with it as well.”

Of course, given that Ballerina has been in post-production since at least February, it’s probably safe to say that that call sadly won’t be coming. As mentioned earlier, there’s still a treasure trove of stories to tell in the John Wick universe, and while only the aforementioned prequels are on the docket at the moment, we’d line up for a story about the Ruska Roma crime syndicate in a heartbeat.

Ballerina is due in theaters on June 7, 2024.
