Josh Gad Was Just “Having Some Fun” With Those Penguin Tweets

Ah, actors. Always trying to troll their fans and elicit reactions and responses, just to see where things might go. This appears to be the case once again when it comes to Josh Gad’s recent Tweets teasing a role as classic Batman villain the Penguin.

It all started a few weeks back when the Frozen star posted a photo of the character on his Twitter feed seemingly out of nowhere. Following that, he dropped a few more hints that had some people thinking he may be involved with The Batman, or perhaps another DCEU project.

As it turns out, however, there was nothing to it. Gad, whose career is definitely on the up and up right now, told MTV in an interview that it was all just for fun and the Tweets didn’t mean anything. Whether he’s being honest or not is up to you to decide, but here’s what he had to say when the outlet asked him about his recent Twitter activity:

“I was just having some fun … Really. I promise. The internet just goes wild — I’m just having some fun. Just putting things out there. I have not met Matt Reeves. Seems like a lovely guy and I would absolutely be open to playing the Penguin in The Batman movie … there’s nothing more we need to talk about. It’s all — we’ll see.”

There’s definitely interest there, and perhaps Gad really is in talks for the role and that Tweet was just the studio’s way of testing the waters so to speak, to see how people would react to it. Or, like the actor says, maybe he was just having some fun. Again, there’s no way to know for sure, but you can definitely color us intrigued by all this.

Like most fans, we’d love to see Josh Gad step into the role of the Penguin, as he certainly has the chops to bring the character to life in a suitable fashion and given that most of his work so far has been of the more comedic/family friendly variety, it’d be nice to see him climb aboard a darker project like The Batman.

Unfortunately, it’ll probably be some time before we find out for sure whether or not Matt Reeves’ upcoming film will make room for Oswald Cobblepot, as the director is still busy putting the finishing touches on War for the Planet of the Apes and won’t be meeting with any talent for casting until the summer. As such, don’t expect to hear anything concrete on which characters will be showing up here for a while.

In the meantime, however, we can definitely speculate and if you have any theories of your own on who might be involved with The Batman, feel free to share them in the usual place!
