On the eve of Wonder Woman‘s release, Josh Gad has taken to Twitter once more to stir the pot with fans, teasing a role as The Penguin in an upcoming DCEU effort – presumably, The Batman.
It all started last month when the Frozen star posted a photo of the character on his Twitter feed seemingly out of nowhere. Following that, he dropped a few more hints that had some people thinking he may be involved with Matt Reeves’ film, or perhaps another DCEU project.
As it turns out, however, there was nothing to it. Gad, whose career is definitely on the up and up right now, told MTV in an interview that it was all just for fun and the Tweets didn’t mean anything. Whether he’s being honest or not is up to you to decide, but here’s what he had to say when the outlet asked him about it:
“I was just having some fun … Really. I promise. The internet just goes wild — I’m just having some fun. Just putting things out there. I have not met Matt Reeves. Seems like a lovely guy and I would absolutely be open to playing the Penguin in The Batman movie … there’s nothing more we need to talk about. It’s all — we’ll see.”
So, that’s that then, right? Well, maybe not. Earlier tonight, Gad took to Twitter once more to post a photo of a recent visit he had with DC. In the pic, he’s holding a Batman comic and standing with him are DC head honchos Geoff Johns and Jon Berg. The caption reads: “Nothing to see here…”
That’s a pretty big tease, but with Gad already coming clean and admitting that there was nothing to the Penguin rumors, should we even bother speculating about what this photo could indicate? Maybe. It’s definitely a little odd, to have the actor admit a few weeks back that he was just having some fun with fans, only to then start teasing us again, but it also makes us think that at this point, there’s got to be something in the works.
It might not be a role in a live-action film, but perhaps in one of DC’s animated efforts? Who knows? Either way, Gad’s a talented individual, but to date, he’s mostly appeared in lighter and more comedic affairs. Not that there’s anything wrong with that, but seeing him show up in something more dark and serious like The Batman would be a nice change of pace, and even though Penguin’s currently featured on the small screen on Gotham, we’d more than welcome another take on the villain.
That’s just our opinion, though. What do you think? Would you like to see Josh Gad enter the DCEU? Let us know your thoughts in the usual place.
