The Justice League marketing machine is currently operating at a mile a minute – and rightfully so, given that November 17th due date is beginning to loom over the horizon.
However, in the fallout of Warner’s impressive showcase at San Diego Comic-Con two months ago, Justice League has been mired in conflicting reports that largely revolve around Joss Whedon’s input. To recap, the two-time Avengers director initially took over the reins from Zack Snyder, who exited the project alongside wife and producing partner Deborah Snyder in order to tend to a family tragedy.
What followed was a deluge of rumors concerning those extensive reshoots, after it emerged that Whedon and his team had allegedly nixed a number of characters – Deathstroke included – from the film’s theatrical cut. Chalk that up as conjecture for the time being, but it’s worth keeping in mind that Joss Whedon has now received a screenplay credit for his contribution to Justice League, which tells us that his involvement in Warner’s starry project was fairly substantial.
However that may be, now that JL is finally on the verge of crossing the finish line, a new close-up of Batman has emerged online via Reddit.
It’s admittedly a nondescript image of the Caped Crusader, but as a handful of Reddit users point out, this latest Justice League still brings us closer to the revamped Batsuit, which even shields Bruce Wayne’s eyes from the side. Not bad, eh?
That being said, if there’s any truth to The Hollywood Reporter’s scoop from last week – a scoop that brought news of Warner Bros.’ desire to land Leonardo DiCaprio for its embryonic Joker spinoff – Ben Affleck will be donning the cape and cowl for the final time later this year, thereby allowing Matt Reeves (War For the Planet of the Apes) to cast his own Dark Knight for The Batman. But is it genuine? Or another piece of phony intel? We’ll leave that one to you.
Justice League opens November 17th.
