Justin Theroux Wanted To Play Doctor Strange

With Iron Man 3 almost out the door, Thor: The Dark World and Captain America: The Winter Soldier well into production, Guardians of the Galaxy almost done casting and Ant-Man in the pre-production stage, Marvel is turning their head towards future projects, like Doctor Strange. As far as we know, the film is still without a director, writer or any cast members, but there's no doubt that the studio is already scoping out the perfect actor for the part.

With Iron Man 3 almost out the door, Thor: The Dark World and Captain America: The Winter Soldier well into production, Guardians of the Galaxy almost done casting and Ant-Man in the pre-production stage, Marvel is turning their head towards future projects, like Doctor Strange. As far as we know, the film is still without a director, writer or any cast members, but there’s no doubt that the studio is already scoping out the perfect actor for the part.

We came up with a list not too long ago of our choices for who should play the titular character but today, CHUD is reporting that Marvel has their eye on someone who we’d never expect to show up in a film like this: Justin Theroux. Apparently there’s strong interest from the studio in having him play the part, though as of now, this is unconfirmed. The news comes from a “trusted industry source” so don’t take this as fact, at least not yet.

Though just a rumor, the idea of Theroux playing the Marvel character is an interesting one. Especially since this news comes shortly after we heard that Evil Dead director Fede Alvarez may be helming the film. A Doctor Strange film led by Alvarez and Theroux? Could it happen? Only time will tell. For now though, we’re intrigued.

Theroux, though not exactly the type of actor I’d imagine in a role like this, is no doubt a talented individual and a likeable screen presence. He’s also a writer, so perhaps he can contribute to the script as well? He’s not exactly a “big” name but maybe Marvel wants someone with a lower profile for the film.

As always, we’ll keep you posted when we hear more on Doctor Strange. In the meantime though, let us know what you think of this news. Would you like to see Justin Theroux star in the film, or did you have someone else in mind? Let us know!
