With Suicide Squad set to hit theatres this Friday, hype for the film is at an all-time high now, and understandably so. Warner Bros. has run a brilliant marketing campaign leading up to the release, and everything we’ve seen from the DC Comics adaptation so far leads us to believe that it’s going to be a massive hit. So, it’s no surprise then that questions of a sequel have begun to arise.

In an interview with ComicBook.com, actress Karen Fukuhara spoke about her character Katana and what she’d like to see should the studio green light a follow up, which they most likely will.

“I’d like to explore where she’s from, what kind of training she comes from – if she gets a stand-alone movie that would be awesome,” said the actress. “There’s so much story from the point of her husband’s death to her story leading up to Suicide Squad – that’s something that I’d love to show on the screen.”

Unfortunately, it doesn’t seem like the film is going to dive too much into Katana’s backstory, which is unfortunate, as she’s an interesting character with a lot of potential. Heck, Warner Bros. could even put a spinoff revolving around her into production and we’d be mighty excited.

Still, with people like Harley Quinn, the Joker and Deadshot also appearing in Suicide Squad, it makes sense that there won’t be enough time for all of Task Force X to get their moment in the spotlight. As we said above though, all signs point to the film being a hit and at this point, we have no reason not to think that Warner Bros. will order multiple sequels and spinoffs into production once those box office numbers roll in.

Suicide Squad hits theatres this Friday, August 5th. Our review, meanwhile, will be live tomorrow, so stay tuned.
