Karen Gillan Says Nebula Will Confront Some Serious Daddy Issues In Avengers: Endgame

The MCU has its share of dysfunctional families, from Thor and his villainous siblings, to Peter Quill and his Celestial father, but the most messed up of them all just might be the Thanos clan, with the Mad Titan sacrificing his daughter Gamora in Avengers: Infinity War after torturing his other adopted child Nebula. And with next year’s Avengers: Endgame, we could be seeing all this tense history come to a head.

That’s what we gather from Karen Gillan’s recent comments in an interview with People, in which the Nebula actress suggested that her character is finally going to work through some deep-rooted issues with her genocidal father.

“What can I say? Thanos is her dad and she is definitely going to confront some serious daddy issues,” Gillan said. “That’s for sure.”

Nebula’s MCU appearances have regularly touched upon her complicated relationship with Thanos, most notably in Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 where she bonded a little with Gamora over their shared trauma, before heading off on her mission to kill their pappy. As Infinity War made clear, things didn’t really go as planned, but the saga practically demands at least one more confrontation between father and daughter.

All the same, the question remains of what role Nebula will play in next year’s story, with some fans speculating that she might even usurp her dad to become the main villain of the movie. For what it’s worth, Gillan herself has already teased that her character has an unexpected new BFF, and based on the first Endgame trailer, that friend might well be Tony Stark. By and large, however, we have much to learn, and based on Gillan’s previous claim that she hasn’t even seen an Avengers: Endgame script, so does she, but all will be revealed when the film hits theaters on April 26th, 2019.
