Back in August last year, Karen Gillan revealed what everyone thought to be a coy hint of things to come in Infinity War, but whether she knew it or not, the actress may have actually given us a small spoiler from next year’s Avengers 4.

The following quote, taken from an interview with Fandango, suggested that Nebula will wind up with a loyal partner at her side in the fight against Thanos – a plot point that didn’t exactly come to fruition in Infinity War.

“I know who her new BFF is, and I can’t tell you. I can’t. But I promise you it’s brilliant and unexpected and just so good.”

Of course, the takeaway here is that Gillan got her films mixed up and was actually referring to Avengers 4. But that still begs the question of just who this “new BFF” may be. That remains unknown, but a recent Instagram post from the actress may have let the cat out of the bag.

Seen in the gallery down below, Gillan shared a photo of herself on the set of next May’s blockbuster, while adding the following caption to the pic: Back on @avengers. Got @pom.klementieff to keep me company. #nebulaandmantis

So, is Mantis about to become Nebula’s new best friend? Well, the Guardian is currently not amongst the living anymore, but given that she’s expected to be back in action before long, it’s certainly possible. Whether it’s Pom Klementieff’s character or someone else entirely, though, one thing that you can be certain of is that the fact that Nebula survived her pa’s Finger Snap of Doom likely means she’ll have a much bigger role to play in Avengers 4.

In fact, many are speculating that the film could follow closely to what happened in the climax of The Infinity Gauntlet comic book storyline. There, Nebula got hold of the Infinity Gauntlet when Thanos was busy fighting the heroes on the astral plane. She seized her chance and removed the accessory from the Mad Titan’s hand. With the power of the device at her disposal though, she became an even more maniacal fiend than her father.

Whether Marvel will go so far as to depict that in Avengers 4, we can’t say for sure, but at the rate she’s been sharing updates, you’d be wise to keep your eyes fixed on Karen Gillan’s Instagram account over the coming weeks.
