Elizabeth Banks, director, writer and producer of the upcoming musical sequel, Pitch Perfect 2, announced via Twitter today that Katey Sagal has signed on for a role.
Sagal carved a name for herself playing Al Bundy’s long-suffering wife Peg in Married With Children, and currently stars as tough biker mom Gemma Morrow Teller in FX’s Sons Of Anarchy, which returns to our screens for its seventh season later this year. We’re hoping this latest part means that she’s gonna be a comically overprotective mom for Steinfeld, but at this point it’s all guesswork, as no official information has surfaced regarding the film’s plot.
Banks’ statement was posted first on her website before being published on her Twitter. As an active social media user, expect set photos to emerge from her various accounts before Universal releases any official marketing morsels.
This second outing for college acapella troupe Barden Bellas and their rival boy equivalent, The Treblemakers, was given the greenlight after the 2012 flick raked in a colossal $115 million worldwide. On a budget of $17 million. This time around Banks, who conceived the original story, produced and co-starred, will tackle the directorial duties. Screenwriter Kay Cannon is also back on board, having already turned in the script.
Sagal will join Pitch stalwarts Anna Kendrick, Rebel Wilson and Brittany Snow, who’ve all signed on to reprise their roles from the original. The majority of the supporting cast are also set to appear, with Skylar Astin, Anna Camp, Ester Dean, Alexis Knapp, Hana Mae Lee and Kelley Jakle having signed up.
Filming on Pitch Perfect 2 is scheduled to begin in May, with a tentative release set for May 15th, 2015.
