In what can be considered the second bit of strange casting news that we’ve heard today, it’s being reported that Katy Perry wants a role in Blade Runner 2. The film is still a long ways away, but that doesn’t mean that rumors and speculation can’t get going.

Currently, Green Lantern‘s Michael Green is set to pen the script and director Ridley Scott likely won’t start shooting until he’s done his upcoming Moses flick, Exodus. Still, Katy Perry already has her eye on a role in the film and while doing press for The Smurfs 2, she said the following:

“With films, I hope to win you all over with animation and then do other films,” Perry told Metro. “I am really interested in comedy, and I would really love to play Rachael in ‘Blade Runner 2,’ if Ridley would just call!”

You can’t blame her for setting her sights high but still, Katy Perry in Blade Runner 2? In what world is that going to happen? Don’t get me wrong, I think that Perry is a great performer and a talented musician, I just can’t picture her in a film like this.

Then again, stranger things have happened. Who knows, maybe Scott will call her up? Either way, it will be a long time before we hear anything official on this front.

What do you think? Should Ridley Scott call up Katy Perry for Blade Runner 2? Let us know in the comments below.
