Beyond next month’s Civil War, Tom Holland will be swinging into action for Jon Watts’ standalone Spider-Man reboot – and Peter Parker may be bringing a few friends along for the ride.

That’s according to Marvel head honcho Kevin Feige, who confirmed to Entertainment Weekly that yes, other characters will appear alongside Holland in the film, fuelling speculation amongst fans as to who that costumed hero (heroes?) could be.

If previous reports prove accurate, Watts’ Spider-Man movie will be launching in 2017 bearing the title Homecoming which, should the feature film hue closely to Marvel’s comics, could potentially pave the way for Steve Rogers (Chris Evans) and Tony Stark (Robert Downey Jr.) to make an appearance.

Speculation aside, when quizzed about the possibility of a cameo or two, Feige pointed to the relatively flexible nature of the Marvel Cinematic Universe, which has played host to numerous crossovers across its triumphant run on the silver screen. When it comes to Holland and his potential superhero friends, Feige said that “he [Tom Holland] is in the universe now, and the fun of the universe is that characters go back and forth.”

There’s no question that we’ll have a clearer understanding of Holland’s place in the MCU once Civil War premieres in May, and it’ll be fascinating to see how the fallout from Marvel’s monumental dust-up filters into the 2017 standalone film – if at all.

Starring Holland in the lead role, along with Marisa Tomei and singer-songwriter Zendaya, look for Watts’ Spider-Man reboot to swing into theaters on July 7, 2017.
