Kevin Feige Offers A Status Update On Avengers 4

Though 2018 certainly has several more superhero movies to serve up, the mighty Marvel Studios now happens to be done for the year. With Ant-Man and the Wasp's opening weekend behind us, attention will turn toward 2019's Captain Marvel and Avengers 4, the latter of which we could easily dub "the Big One."

As you’re probably well aware, we have under ten months to go until the final showdown with Thanos graces cinemas, so it stands to reason that Joe and Anthony Russo – and the rest of their colleagues, for that matter – remain hard at work assembling what’s sure to be a box office sensation.

Not being the studio’s first rodeo by any stretch of the imagination, everyone involved is well aware of the pace needed to be kept in order to make that due date. And according to head honcho Kevin Feige (via Birth.Movies.Death), they’re further along with the production than they’d usually be at this time.

“We’re just starting the edit. The brothers [directors Joe and Anthony Russo] have worked on their cut, and we’ve been together in the editing room for a couple weeks now, so it’s very early days. But it’s much earlier than usual, right? Usually we’re still filming. Captain Marvel comes out in March, while this one comes out in May and we’re already starting. It’s fun to get a jump, it’s good having already shot the majority of the movie. So we’re just getting into our traditional editorial process now.”

Perhaps the jump was due to filming two Avengers flicks back to back, but that’s just an assumption on our part. As Feige continued, though, he compared this one to some of the brand’s other recent hits, hinting that the wiggle room they’ve been given could make for a better picture.

“We try – what’s the analogy, that a goldfish will grow to the size of the bowl? Ant-Man and the Wasp had very little post and yet we made a lot of strides in post, and we did a lot of very good maneuvering on it with the limited time we had. Avengers 4 has much more time; Ragnarok had much more time and we did a lot. You always fill the time you have. Either you have a lot of time and it really motivates you to think things through, or you have no time, and it really motivates you to think things through!”

I guess we’ll find out if that lead-in time paid off when Avengers 4 arrives in theaters on May 3rd, 2019.
