Kevin Feige Gives His Thoughts On James Gunn Boarding Suicide Squad 2

The topic of Gunn’s latest project was raised in a red carpet interview last night with Marvel Studios head Kevin Feige, and going by his comments to MTV News, the producer has no hard feelings about the Guardians of the Galaxy helmsman being snatched up for the DCEU:

“I went to see Aquaman last night and I really, really enjoyed it. And you know me, I’ve always supported [them]. I don’t see a rivalry, I see cool films being made. And one thing you know about James Gunn, he makes cool films.”

The recruitment of Gunn for Suicide Squad 2 seems all too perfect seeing how the first film was widely interpreted as the DCEU’s answer to Guardians. At the same time, David Ayer’s 2016 flick didn’t receive nearly the positive reception that Gunn’s two MCU movies did, leading many fans to hope that he’ll be able to reinvent this saga as the product of his own vision.

Based on reports from a few months ago, Suicide Squad 2 is looking to serve as a soft reboot for the saga that’ll keep the original cast members but will steer the property in a new direction. That being said, it’s been a while now since we’ve heard any news on the project, though the film might still beat Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 to cinemas. At this point, a replacement for Gunn has yet to be confirmed, though Feige at least offered his assurances last night that the threequel is on the way.
