Kristen Wiig In Talks To Play Cheetah In Wonder Woman 2

After the first Wonder Woman flick cleaned up at the box office, it was only expected that a sequel be imminent. And most fortunate for moviegoers and the film franchise itself is that the character does indeed have a decently rich rogues gallery to mine for future installments, thus alleviating any pressure to desperately search for a villain, as is sometimes the case for pictures of this sort.

On that note, casting has now begun for the sequel, Wonder Woman 2, and after hearing that Cheetah would serve as the primary antagonist in the movie, Deadline brings word today that Bridesmaids star Kristen Wiig is in talks to play the role. No further details have been made available, but the incorporation of Cheetah will no doubt yield a markedly different film.

With Diana already having dealt with a god in Ares, her sometimes frenemy in Minerva would allow for the sequel to very much be a different beast. Not only that, but it’d give Wondy a chance to further showcase her compassionate side as she attempts to pull Barbara back from the abyss, something we saw in Greg Rucka and Liam Sharp’s recent comic book run.

Wonder Woman 2 is officially on the horizon, folks, and though Warner Bros. and writer-director Patty Jenkins are keeping mum on any and all story details, we’ve caught wind that Diana’s second solo outing will shift the focus to the Cold War, while there’s even been mention of a “totally different” adventure for the Amazonian.

It’ll light up theaters on November 1st, 2019 – exactly six weeks before the arrival of Star Wars: Episode IX  – and as soon as we hear more, we’ll be sure to let you know.
