Latest Fantasy News: Flounder hate continues to weigh down ‘The Little Mermaid’ as ‘The Witcher’ stans urge against hate-watching season 3

Flounder is reminding fans of another Disney failure.

Disney’s live-action The Little Mermaid is exactly one month from release.

Its rapidly-approaching release date is only inciting more arguments online, as the film’s viewer base debates its merits against its failures. Disappointing CGI is already taking a front seat in discussions of the film, as people compare Flounder’s thoroughly unimpressive look with another Disney disappointment.

Disney isn’t the only company out here distressing fantasy fans. Netflix quickly joined Disney in the blunder bandwagon with the release of the official teaser for season three of The Witcher. The trailer, which did generate hype among some fans, also served to remind audiences of Henry Cavill’s impending departure from the series. Outrage over his recasting, paired with broad vitriol aimed at his replacement, might be enough to boost the show’s viewership from hate watching alone.

A far more exciting project can serve as a palette cleanser for dismayed fantasy fanatics, thanks to the one thing Netflix did right this week. A first look at the platform’s adaptation of Nimona, a delightful comic about a shapeshifting girl and the villainous man she admires, provided just enough of an update to rekindle widespread enthusiasm among fans of ND Stevenson’s brilliant creation.

Few Disney fans have endorsed the live-action Little Mermaid’s take on Ariel’s fishy friend Flounder since the first glimpses of him arrived online, and opinions don’t appear to be improving, despite tweaks to his utterly terrifying look. Fans are drawing correlations between the character’s unpopular appearance and the similarly unpopular “live-action” characters in The Lion King. Did Disney learn a single lesson over the last four years?

Its safe to say The Witcher fanbase is very much not on board with Netflix’s decision to recast lead character Geralt, but the move has already been made. Season three will be Henry Cavill’s last, and season four will see a new actor — Liam Hemsworth — step into the role.

As fans make a plan to push back against Netflix for ignoring viewer wants and ousting a beloved actor from a role he encapsulated perfectly, people are urging against hate watching. Shows like Velma reportedly earned high viewership — and renewals — thanks to hate watching from their detractors, and displeased Witcher fans don’t want to see the same happen over at Netflix.

Viewers finally get a look at Netflix’s Nimona

The film adaptation of ND Stevenson’s Nimona has suffered quite a few setbacks over the years, but it seems the flick is finally making its way to screens. A delightful first look at main character Nimona and Ballister Blackheart, her villainous idol, recently arrived online, and finally got the hype train chugging for Netflix’s adaptation. A quick glimpse of the two characters, as well as Nimona transformed into a massive pink rhino, was enough to get fans of the original comic thoroughly pumped, and counting the days until the film’s summer release.
