As you can imagine, there’s only one place to start any roundup of the latest goings-on in the world of the Marvel Cinematic Universe, and it’s the franchise’s freshly-installed big bad Jonathan Majors.
The actor was arrested on allegations of assault, and while legal team have already protested his innocence, that hasn’t stopped trigger-happy fans from demanding Kang the Conqueror be recast before he’s even gotten his feet wet.
Meanwhile, James Gunn has coincidentally claimed that his Marvel duties have left him too stretched for time to support Zack Snyder and the burning embers of the SnyderVerse, which is convenient if nothing else.
Jonathan Majors’ arrest causes an outcry over recasting Kang the Conqueror
Prior to Jonathan Majors’ representatives releasing a statement claiming to have irrefutable evidence that he’s innocent of the accusations being leveled at him following his arrest, social media didn’t waste any time in demanding that he be recast as the Multiverse Saga’s prime antagonist.
Should the evidence prove that there’s been no wrongdoing on the actor’s part, then he obviously isn’t going anywhere, but that didn’t prevent plenty of people from jumping to conclusions before considering every aspect of the situation, something that should hopefully become clearer in the near future.
Sorry Zack Snyder, James Gunn is too busy to publicly support the SnyderVerse
One of the most intriguing questions on the minds of SnyderVerse supporters and detractors alike was whether or not James Gunn would even acknowledge the upcoming Full Circle event, never mind give it his backing.
However, while the Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 director did confirm that he’ll be making a donation to the cause, he’s coincidentally too wrapped up in press duties for his MCU swansong to turn up in person. Not that you’d imagine he’d be too welcome anyway.
The Marvel vs. DC debate takes an unsavory turn as Ezra Miller gets brought up
It was always going to be the case that when a high-profile MCU figure like Jonathan Majors was arrested on assault allegations, the Marvel vs. DC debate would reveal one of its uglier faces.
Sure enough, Ezra Miller was swiftly brought into the conversation, and while not everything needs to be boiled down to pitting the two comic book companies against each other, that’s typically the way it tends to work.
That’s it for our latest roundup of all things Marvel for the week, but be sure to check back tomorrow for when it all begins again.
