Bringing together the creative team behind 50/50, Levine’s irreverent feature follows a trio of childhood friends who want to stage the Holy Grail of Christmas parties before they each go their separate ways. Standing on the edge of the beginning of the rest of their lives, Ethan (Joseph Gordon-Levitt), Isaac (Seth Rogen) and Chris (Anthony Mackie) revel in nine kinds of seasonal shenanigans, from indulging in the white stuff – and no, we’re not talking about snow – to getting into fisticuffs with Father Christmas himself.

For the bumbling trio, such uproarious festivities have become an annual tradition, though with Seth Rogen’s character preparing to have a baby – very badly, we may add – The Night Before will naturally begin with said trio running wild before reconciling with old friends and family. It remains to be seen whether Levine and Co. can hatch a truly timeless holiday comedy in the way they’ve set out to, and it won’t be easing given the festive competition releasing in and around the same opportune window.

Completing the cast are Lizzy Caplan, Jillian Bell, Mindy Kaling, and Michael Shannon playing against type as a delusional stoner. The Night Before will open in theaters on November 20.

Ethan (Joseph Gordon-Levitt), Isaac (Seth Rogen) and Chris (Anthony Mackie) have been friends since childhood, and for a decade, their yearly Christmas Eve reunion has been an annual night of debauchery and hilarity. Now that they’re entering adulthood, the tradition is coming to an end, and to make it as memorable as possible, they set out to find the Nutcracka Ball – the Holy Grail of Christmas parties.
