Summer blockbuster seasons are rarely as crowded with heavyweights as 2015, with numerous superhero and sci-fi flicks vying for box office supremacy. However, Joe Wright and Warner Bros. will be adding a dash of fantasy with the director’s upcoming Pan, a mystical origin story that recounts the beginning of Peter Pan’s legacy.

Taking to Instagram, the film’s star Hugh Jackman – and his questionable hair piece – have ushered in a new teaser that welcomes the audience to Neverland.

For Wright’s modern retelling, Jackman will assume the role of the pirate Blackbeard, while Garrett Hedlund plays the part of Captain Hook long before his descent into villainy. There are also roles for Amanda Seyfried, Rooney Mara and model-cum-actress Cara Delevingne. Levi Miller is on board for the title role of Peter.

Taking the legend back to where it all began is certainly a novel approach for Wright and Co. to take, and it’s been a long time since we’ve seen the origins of  J.M. Barrie’s beloved character on the silver screen. Despite this, the footage release for Pan thus far hasn’t exactly set the world on fire. With a heavy reliance on CGI, it’ll be interesting to see whether the story can set itself apart from the fantasy fare that preceded it.

Pan is slated to arrive on July 17, 2015.

From Warner Bros. Pictures comes, “Pan,” a live-action Peter Pan feature directed by Joe Wright (“Atonement,” “Pride & Prejudice”). Offering a new take on the origin of the classic characters created by J.M. Barrie, the action adventure follows the story of an orphan who is spirited away to the magical Neverland. There, he finds both fun and dangers, and ultimately discovers his destiny—to become the hero who will be forever known as Peter Pan.
