For months now, rumors have persisted that Zendaya would be playing Mary Jane Watson in Spider-Man: Homecoming. That all came to a head earlier this week though when the actress shut down the speculation once again. If you still don’t believe her though, then maybe this latest bit of news will do the trick.
Latino-Review is reporting that their sources have told them that Zendaya is right, she’s not going to be playing Peter Parker’s love interest. Instead, that honor will go to Laura Harrier, who’s going to be portraying Liz Allen in the film. Though not as instantly recognizable as MJ, Liz is still a character from the comics and the titular hero has had romantic feelings for her in the past.
While fans were no doubt hoping for Mary Jane to be the one who steals Peter’s heart in the film, it’s nice to hear that the studio is switching things up here. After all, Homecoming is being billed as an entirely fresh take on the iconic character, and after the mediocre Amazing Spider-Man series, we really do need something different. Thankfully, from what we’ve seen and heard so far, it seems like we’ll be getting just that.
Spider-Man: Homecoming will swing into theatres on July 7th, 2017 and stars Tom Holland, Robert Downey Jr., Michael Keaton, Donald Glover, Jon Favreau, Martin Starr and many more.
While we wait for more information to be revealed about Harrier’s role, tell us, are you happy to hear that Liz will be Spidey’s love interest? Sound off down below with your thoughts!
