Though Captain Marvel didn’t appear in the first Avengers: Endgame trailer, the much anticipated footage did herald the return of two old favorites who were conspicuously absent from this year’s Avengers: Infinity War. One of them, of course, was Scott Lang, whose appearance towards the end of the preview has fueled fan theories of time travel. The other, meanwhile, was Clint Barton, better known by the name Hawkeye but seen in the trailer sporting another of his popular guises from the comic books.
The introduction of Clint’s Ronin persona has been a popular prediction for many months now, but the Endgame footage finally gave us our first official look at the hooded figure. And now, following that we have some new promo art which shows off even more of the hero’s costume, including his mask. Seen in the gallery down below, it’s unclear where exactly this came from, but we’ve confirmed that it is indeed legit and we must say, Mr. Barton looks pretty badass.
See for yourself:
Of course, if you’ve been keeping track of the leaks and speculation, it shouldn’t come as much of a surprise that Jeremy Renner’s character has taken on this dark new persona. I mean, we’ve been getting hints all year that this is the route Marvel will be heading down with the Phase 1 Avenger. Not to mention that producer Kevin Feige has been teasing big plans for the guy who shoots arrows for a while now.
While his exact role in the film is still unclear, it should be interesting to see how Ronin holds his own with his super-powered peers. We’ve underestimated Hawkeye before, and if the theories of his family being among the Decimation’s victims are true, then he’ll have just as much motivation as the other heroes to make a certain Mad Titan very hurt when Avengers: Endgame hits theaters on April 26th, 2019.
