It really is a shame what happened with the Fantastic Four reboot. You had a promising, young director at the helm, with an impressive cast set to bring the titular family to life. All signs pointed to an exciting new take on the property, but then the film hit theaters.

What went wrong, you ask? Well, just about everything, actually. One of the biggest disappointments though was the way the villain, Doctor Doom, was handled. While Toby Kebbell didn’t necessarily do a bad job in the role, the reshoots ended up cutting a lot of his scenes, leaving the character as a pretty underwhelming antagonist in the final product. That’s why we’re so excited by this most recent bit of news coming out of Comic-Con.

Earlier today at the convention, Legion creator Noah Hawley dropped a bombshell on those in attendance when he announced that he’s making a Doctor Doom movie for Fox.

Towards the end of the panel for his hit FX show, the writer/director teased audiences and sent fans into a frenzy when he said the following: “I’ll just say two words. The first one is Doctor and the next one is Doom.” Unfortunately, he wouldn’t elaborate any further on what the studio’s got planned, but just the mere mention of a project featuring the iconic Marvel villain is enough to get us excited.

After all, I don’t think anyone saw this coming. Sure, Doom has been featured on the big screen several times already (including in the aforementioned Fantastic Four), but he was handled poorly every time he appeared. As such, we haven’t really had a solid adaptation of the character yet and that’s something which really needs to be fixed. Thankfully, Noah Hawley is now here to do just that.

We know that Fox is looking to reboot the Fantastic Four once again into a more kid-friendly affair, though we’re not sure how or even if this new Doctor Doom project will tie into that. We imagine it will, given that he’s the arch nemesis of the aforementioned heroes, but again, we’ve really got no details to go on at this point and all we can do right now is speculate.

Still, the fact that it sounds like Doom will finally be getting his due is hugely exciting and we’re hopeful that more information about the film will come to light sooner rather than later.
