After making nearly $100 million on a $1.5 million budget, it’s really no surprise that the studio wants the duo back for Insidious 2. Deadline broke the news but they have no word on if any of the actors will return or where the story will go.

“INSIDIOUS was the most fun project I’ve ever worked on,” said Whannell.  “From start to finish it was an absolute joy—from the writing of the screenplay, all the way to the first screening of the film at the Toronto film festival.  I believe that James Wan and I achieved what we set out to do—create a horror film for horror fans.  So it is with great excitement that we announce our commitment to a second installment of this story.  Both of us feel that we can mine more terror from the world we created and know that if we assemble every member of the original team, we will have an amazing continuation of the story for fans of the first film.  Thank you so much to every fan—you are the reason why we do what we do.  See you in The Further.”

I’m thrilled with this news. I loved Insidious, it’s one of my favorite horror films of all time. It managed to offer genuine scares and keep me on edge for the entire runtime without resorting to needless blood and gore.  Everytime I watch it (and I’ve seen it a lot) I get scared. It really is a great horror movie and it impresses me that Wan and Whannell could do so much with a PG-13 rating and a limited budget.

Bring on Insidious 2!
